Artist Statement

I discovered the thrill of adornment at my 12th birthday party while opening a present from my parents. Filled with excitement, I carefully unfolded the wrappings, and I could sense this gift would be spectacular. My hands trembled as I held the earrings and watched their color change from blue-green to purple-red in the varying light rays. These gems held the same characteristics as my mother's alexandrite (our shared birthstone) ring that she later gave me when I turned sixteen.

Fascinated with anything that sparkled, this childhood gift gently awakened in me an awe for things that dazzled. My wonder grew through the years- as I did - and turned into true appreciation. Impassioned, I discovered the power of crystal, glass, pearl, and gemstone beads. Their brilliance seduced me into a spell that has forever held me captive.

Now when I hold these alluring chattels my hands quiver with creative excitement, eager to unite the various beads and components to fashion a distinct and innovative design. I marvel as the dancing light plays with color and reflects across the room and into my imagination. Closing my eyes to flashes of their luminous winks, I hear whispers of inspiration. The tiny drilled treasures from earth and sea blend with stunning intensity. Woven or twisted, ancient or contemporary, my mind's eye envisions an endless array of artistic possibilities, and I can't wait to begin!
